PCTel modem driver for Fedora 4

Since this information is available no where on the Internet I decided to put this here so others can benefit from it before this page gets updated. Here is how to install a PC-Tel modem on Fedora 4, if you have anything other than that check out the link above.

1) Download the file http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux/pctel-0.9.7-9-rht-4c.tar.gz
2) Put the attached file pctel-4c-01.patch into the same directory
3) Execute the following commands:

tar xvzf pctel-0.9.7-9-rht-4c.tar.gz
cd pctel-0.9.7-9-rht-4c
patch -p0 < ../pctel-4c-01.patch
su
(type your root password)
./setup

That will compile, install, and activate your modem driver and it should be usable immediately. There should be no spaces in the file path, that caused problems for me.

All the credit goes to Jeff Trull, who provided me with all this information along with the patch. I just copy pasted and edited a bit.

A new driver has been released and the patch is no longer required. You can download it here:

    http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux/pctel-0.9.7-9-rht-5.tar.gz

The rest of the instructions are still correct. Thanks to Ibrahim for hosting this information.

    Hello Ibrahim,

Thanks very much for the help. I tried to download the patch from your site but I could not. Please check the link.

I can try if you provide that patch file.

    Best regards,
    Hari
